Parenting In Your Own Voice

About The Authors

Joan Reynolds MS is a parenting coach and reading specialist who earned her master of science from Bank Street College. For more than two decades, she has worked with children and families in her specialty, and has been a guidance counselor, school learning consultant, and child advocate. In addition, Joan has helped build libraries in low-income communities, taught nutrition and cooking with mothers and children, and conducted weekly story hours for children and parents. Most important, Joan is the mother of a 31-year-old daughter, a role she "continues to grow in." She has had a lifelong interest in helping children reach their potential and believes the best way to help a child is by helping their parents.

Sheila Dinaburg-Azoff PsyD is a parenting coach and holds a doctorate in pediatric/school psychology from Yeshiva University, Ferkauf School of Psychology. For more than two decades, she has worked in hospitals, schools, and clinics running parenting groups, counseling parents and children, and conducting evaluations of children. She has made numerous presentations to parents and professionals on such topics as Therapy with Children, Children and Mourning, Child Development, Self-Esteem, and Parenting Preschoolers. In her view, parents are the experts regarding their children. She has found that through focused discussion, parents can draw upon their insights to expand their understanding of their child. As the mother of two daughters, ages 20 and 24, she continues the learning adventure of being a parent.
